Courses
Jason has over 20 years of teaching woodturning experience with Axminster Skills Centre, Woodworking Wisdom videos and at West Dean College, Hampshire.
Since 2021 Jason has been offering courses from home in Axminster. He runs a range of courses from one and two day beginners, aimed at those that are new to turning or want help and advice, through to bespoke, advanced courses tailored to the students requirements. All courses are held with a maximum of two students known to each other.
Everything needed for the course is supplied, each student has access to a lathe, tools, chucks, timber, and PPE. The workshop has dust extraction and air filtration. Students are advised to bring their own tools to use and get guidance on how to sharpen them. Refreshments and a light lunch are provided throughout the day, please advise of any dietary requirements.
The day starts at approximately 9.00 am and finishes about 4.30 pm or until the project is finished. Cost is £175 per day, per student.

Beginners
If you are thinking of starting woodturning, or are new to turning, learning the basics can be frustrating. Which tools? How to use them? What do they do? This two-day course will give you an introduction, from the setting up of the lathe, the tools and sharpening, and the basic fundamental cuts, covering a range of projects that build the tool skill level.
Box Making Course
Jason has an international reputation for his turned boxes, using skills and techniques developed over the last 35 years. In this two-day course, he shares the basics of making a turned wooden box, advising on timber use, the tools and how they are sharpened, the best ways of holding the work on the lathe, and the all-important sanding and finishing along with polishing to give a finish that lasts.
Bowl Turning Course
This course covers making a range of bowls of different styles and shapes; from selecting the timber, mounting it safely onto the lathe, the lathe set up, the correct tools to use and how to use them, including tool maintenance, the techniques required to shape the bowl, sanding, polishing and some finishing touches to complete the projects.
Experience Day
This course is aimed at those who have never used a lathe and may not have even considered woodturning as a hobby, or those who just want to make a decorative wooden item. This one-day course is aimed at producing a simple project, having a relaxing day that might be the start of a new hobby, a perfect, unusual gift for somebody special.
